Have you written a piece of poetry that reveals how you see a location across Weymouth/Portland?
If so, simply email us your poem by July 15 - 12pm for the chance to have your poem featured across the trail.

Are you a member of a marginalised community? If you are which would that be eg. Migrant, Disabled, Neurodevirgent, LGBTQIA+, Economically Marginalised.
Are your poems about specific locations? If so, can you write after the poem where the location is.
Insert your poem or poems - if the form errors you may have to many words. If that is the case, it's suggested to split sending the poems over two messages or send everything in an email to thejawbonecollective@gmail.com

Interactive Poetry Trail: Discover poems across multiple locations in Weymouth and Portland, accessible through QR codes in print on location as well as online.
Digital Integration: Audio recordings and digital versions of all poems, ensuring accessibility for everyone.
Map app to follow the trail around the towns.
Diverse Perspectives: Experience the poetic voice of traditionally underrepresented people.
Cultural Legacy: Creation of a lasting digital archive celebrating our community's diverse voices.
Community Workshops: Free poetry sessions led by experienced facilitators in both towns

OmniVerse Poetry Workshops
For Weymouth and Portland's marginalised communities
We warmly welcome participants from...
the LGBTQIA+ community, Disabled and neurodivergent writers, those from refugee backgrounds, people experiencing housing insecurity, working class and economically marginalized individuals, and Black and minority ethnic poets and wannabe poets.
Empowering you to share how you experience your town through your words and voice.
Our workshops create a supportive space specifically designed for poets whose voices have been historically underrepresented in the literary landscape.
If you've felt your perspective and experiences haven't been sufficiently heard in traditional literary spaces, this creative community is for you. We believe these diverse voices are essential to creating a rich, authentic portrait of Weymouth and Portland through poetry.
There will be an opportunity to share your words at Spoken Word Nights and for you poetry displayed as part of a poetry trail through Weymouth and Portland, being held throughout August.
What You'll Experience
These intimate 3-hour workshops will create a safe, welcoming space where your story matters. Working with experienced facilitators who understand diverse needs and experiences, you'll explore creative writing techniques to capture your relationship with our towns, revealing the hidden stories that shape our community.

Naomi Wilcox - Lee

Naomi Wilcox - Lee is a local Weymouth community activist, with a passion for poetry as formative tool for self expression and personal discovery. Naomi is a member of the LGBTQ+ community, a mother of two young girls. She is the Host of Proud Poems a spoken word night held regularly at the Vinyl Van, Dorchester.
Peter Roe

Peter Roe, West Dorset Poet, Former Weymouth resident : He is a physically disabled, Neurodivergent performance poet - an alliterating, artistic, autistic. Founder, Managing Editor, and Publisher of The Jawbone Collective CIC, a Not For Profit dedicated to nurturing and promoting emerging and under-represented South West voices through publication, workshops and creating performance opportunities.

Powerful Performances: Experience authentic spoken word performances from local marginalised voices, including works developed in our community workshops
Inclusive Environment: A welcoming space for all performers, from first-timers to seasoned poets
Interactive Poetry Trail Preview: Get a sneak peek at selected works that will feature in our upcoming poetry trail
Community Connection: Connect with fellow poets and poetry enthusiasts from across our towns
Free Entry - Everyone welcome
Accessibility: Venues are wheelchair accessible. BSL interpretation available upon request. Travel subsidies available for performers who need them.

Our open mic night creates a platform where every voice matters, featuring poets from our diverse communities sharing their unique perspectives and experiences.

Inclusive Environment: A welcoming space for all performers, from first-timers to seasoned poets
Interactive Poetry Trail Update: Hear about how the people and visitors of the towns have enjoyed the Poetry Trail.
Community Connection: Connect with fellow poets and poetry enthusiasts from across our towns
Entry Fee £4
50% of entry fee is for the Royal Manor Theatre and 50% is being donated to the Little Tiny Library.
Accessibility: Venues are wheelchair accessible. BSL interpretation available upon request. Travel subsidies available for performers who need them.

The Jawbone Collective
The Jawbone Collective's commitment to inclusivity goes beyond
mere words it's woven into the fabric of everything we do.
Being a Neurodivergent, Disabled Person from Working Class roots and a proud parent of two non-binary adults, I know all to well the limitations and discrimination people in marginalised communities need to overcome to be accepted and have their voices heard and celebrated.

Cultivating an Inclusive Creative Community
The Collective was founded on the intentions of two poets, Tom Rogers and Peter Roe. They had a wish to share the skills they have learnt on their poetry journeys by offering their support to other emerging writers. Both Peter and Tom believed that it was vital to cultivate an inclusive creative community to to celebrate diverse, unheard voices.
